Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening
With the school holidays nearly upon us, we will be keeping an eye on our known hotspots for anti-social behaviour and patrolling our local parks and green spaces.
Keeping young minds busy during the holidays is no easy feat, for ideas please see Coventry Rocks which shows a variety of family friendly classes and groups, everything from creative workshops to sports clubs. Off Road Bike We take ASB seriously, following a report of an off-road bike with an adult rider and young child thereon, officers caught up with them. Perhaps the parent expected a seizure, but safeguarding concerns were also recorded as the child could have been seriously injured. Vehicle Security Whilst carrying out patrols, in this warm weather, we are seeing a few vehicles with their windows left open and unoccupied. Many insurers require vehicles to be fully secure so if a thief reaches in or steals the vehicle, a claim may be rejected as negligence. Make sure your car is locked and windows are up. Operation Tenacity On the topic of vehicles, Friday saw Camera Enforcement Units in Bablake targeting clone and speeding vehicles in the area for Operation Tenacity which is a UK wide police initiative. The operation’s purpose is to catch and disrupt dangerous drivers who intentionally avoid accountability for multiple motoring offences.
Other good news, two persons have been arrested for a theft from motor vehicle. One of the suspects was further arrested for a separate theft from motor vehicle and three burglary offences.
Following a call from a member of the public of a vehicle acting suspiciously, officers attended and two persons were arrested for burglary. The pair had entered a garage and stolen a vehicle. Elsewhere, another eagle-eyed resident reported a suspicious vehicle parked up which turned out to be stolen in March from HILLFIELDS.
Other stolen vehicles have also been recovered this week with the team working with tracking companies. One of which had been pinched from COALVILLE.
Awareness We have received reports of hub caps and manufacturer badges being stolen from vehicles in Bablake. We are following leads, checking CCTV and will be increasing patrols to try and catch those responsible. Coventry City Centre SaferTownsSummer has been launched so you will be sure to see officers in the city centre. This initiative is to prevent violence, anti-social behaviour, theft and other town centre crime. We want the centre to be a safe and welcoming place to visit.
Crime figures Over the past nine days on the Bablake ward, there have been reports of vehicle crime offences. A van was targeted for tools on BIRMINGHAM ROAD and a car was entered on HEADINGTON AVENUE where loose change was stolen. There have been nine reports of hub caps and badges being stolen across the ward.
I am pleased to say that no residential burglaries have happened on Bablake however three new build sites have been broken into. Suspects have drained fuel from machinery. Some plots nearing completion have also been broken into and appliances stolen including cookers and dishwashers. If you live on a new development or nearby, please report any suspicious activity at the time it is happening on 999.
